Patchouli has a distinctive warm, musky fragrance with earthy, woody nuances that make it especially useful in deeper aromatic compositions. Its lasting character can help anchor lighter citrus and floral notes, while the oil also works well in diffusers, room fragrance and carefully diluted massage or bathing blends.

For massage or topical use, dilute 3–5 drops in 10ml of carrier oil. For diffusion, add 4–5 drops to cold water, or use 2–3 drops with hot water for inhalation. For bathing, add 5–10 drops to water or a suitable carrier oil before stirring into the bath. Patchouli combines particularly well with orange, ylang ylang, myrrh and frankincense.
